Worthy Chaplain Fra. Ljubo Lebo

The Chaplain is the spiritual advisor of the Council. He is expected to make a report at Council meetings on religious matters. The Grand Knight appoints a priest in accordance with any rules established by the bishop of the diocese to serve as Council Chaplain.

Grand Knight Jerry Penava
The Grand Knight is in charge and responsible for the welfare of the Council. He presides over Council meetings, acts as an ex-officio member of all committees, appoints a membership and programming director, convenes officers for a monthly meeting and ensures all necessary reports are submitted to the State and Supreme Council. He should also be aware of the Councils financial status and ensure that his signature appears on all cheques drawn.

Deputy Grand Knight
 Steve Pusic
The Deputy Grand Knight backs up and supports the Grand Knight. He assists with Council affairs and fulfills all duties assigned to him by the Grand Knight. Should the Grand Knight be absent from a Council meeting, the Deputy Grand Knight will preside. He also serves as the General Programs Director and is the chairman of the Councils Retention Committee.

Chancellor John Marsich
The Chancellor has a variety of responsibilities. His primary function is to assist the Grand Knight and Deputy Grand Knight in the execution of their duties and oversees the Council in their absence. He is charged with strengthening the members’ interests in Council activities and serves as the chairman of the Admission Committee.

Financial Secretary Steve Zokvic
The Financial Secretary is appointed by the Supreme Knight (the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of the Knights of Columbus), upon recommendation of the Council. His main area of responsibilities is maintaining all financial and membership records. He collects and receives all monies from all sources, including annual dues from Council members. He also handles supply orders for the Council officers and members, filing the Report of Officers and submitting all membership transactions to the Supreme Council.

Recorder Steve Bartolovic
The Recorder is similar to a court reporter or a secretary. He is responsible for maintaining a true record of all actions of the Council and its correspondence.

Treasurer Mirko Tomac
The Treasurer is responsible for the safekeeping and maintaining records of all Council funds and accounts. He is responsible for depositing money into the Council accounts and provides a voucher or certificate of deposit of such monies to the Grand Knight. He is also responsible for payment of all expenses.

Advocate Matthew Pavelich
The Advocate is the parliamentarian  of the Council and serves as the Council’s attorney at trials and investigations of any interest to the Council. While he does not need to be a member of the legal profession, he should be familiar with the Council by-laws, the Order’s Charter, Constitution and Laws, Methods of Conducting a Council Meeting, and Robert’s Rules of Order. When a by-law is to be revised, the Advocate serves as chairman of the revision committee.

Warden John Draskovic
The Warden is the “watchdog” for Council property and degree paraphernalia, except the property of the Financial Secretary, Treasurer and Recorder. He is also responsible for setting up the Council chambers for meetings and ceremonial work. During ceremonial exemplifications, he will appoint and supervise the Inside and Outside Guards.

Trustees Tomo Barkovic (1), Nikola Krznaric (2) & Milivoj Derkovic (3)
The Board of Trustees consists of three members elected by the Council and the Grand Knight, who serves as Chairman of the Board. They oversee the work of the Financial Secretary and Treasurer, and with the Deputy Grand Knight serve on the Council’s retention committee. During Council elections, only the three-year trustee is voted on, with the others moving on to become two-year and one-year trustees, respectively.

Guards Jure Sutlic (Inside) and Vinko Brebric (Outside)
The Guards have similar responsibilities, but distinct differences. The Outside Guard tends to the outer door admitting visitors and members to the inner door. Once at the inner door, the Inside Guard checks to make sure that their membership cards are current.

Lecturer Dr. Dennis Sladic
The Lecturer is appointed by the Grand Knight to provide both educational and entertaining programs to the Council. He is responsible for the “Good of the Order” portion of Council meetings. In order to provide members with informative and educational programs, he must be knowledgeable and aware of all Council programs.

How Do I Join?

Are you Eligible to become a Knight?

There are only two requirements for a man to join the Knights of Columbus. He must be a practical Catholic as understood by the Church and 18 years of age or older.

How Can You Join Council 11774?

Since Council #11774 is a parish based Council, most of our members are parishioners of the St. Francis of Assisi parish. Becoming a member of the parish is not necessary in order to become a member of our Council.

The easiest way to join, if a Brother Knight has not already approached you, is to approach a gentleman who you already know is a member of Council #11774. If you do not know a member, then ask one of the ushers at Sunday Mass. Chances are that he  is already a member. If not, you will be introduced to a Knight.

You will be asked to fill out a “Form 100.” On this form you will fill in basic demographic information (ie. name, address, etc). You will then be contacted for an interview and you are on your way to your First Degree.

There are four initiation degrees that explain the Knights of Columbus’ four principles of Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism.

If you prefer, you may contact the Grand Knight Jerry Penava @ 519.973.1535 or Membership Director Nikola Krznaric @519.944.1721.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Why Join the Knights?

Imagine being part of an organization that fills your heart and your mind with the joy of giving to others and the feeling that comes with making a difference.

Knights are Catholic men, 18 years of age and older, who are committed to making their community a better place, while supporting their Church. Being a Knight is more than camaraderie;

-It is being involved with your community
-It is supporting your local Catholic Church, while enhancing your own faith
-It is about protecting and enhancing your family life

What is a Practical Catholic?

A practical Catholic is one who is in union with the Holy Spirit and who practices the precepts of the Catholic Church.

Catholic men 18 years of age or older who join the Knights of Columbus belong to a Council, or local unit. Members who have been in the Knights for one year and have attained Third Degree membership are eligible to join the Fourth Degree Knights.

The Knights of Columbus also sponsors the Columbian Squires, a service and leadership training organization for Catholic young men ages 10 to 18.

Here at St. Francis of Assisi, the Council is very active in all aspect of parish life. We are many of those you see serving as Ushers, Lectors, and Eucharistic Ministers. We also provide much of the workforce needed during specific events in the Church and school calendar.

Membership Benefits

As a member of the Knights of Columbus you and your family enjoy many benefits, including 12 free issues annual of the Columbia magazine, the world’s largest Catholic family magazine, eligibility to join the Knights of Columbus top-ranked life insurance program and many more family and personal benefits.

Membership requirements are that the applicant be a practical Catholic gentleman who is 18 years of age or older.
