CUIC, Fr. Jozo, OFM - Fr. Jozo Cuic was born July 27, 1947 in Bukovica near Tomislavgrad. He graduated grade school in Posusje and continued his studies at the Franciscan high school in Visoko. He finished his theological studies in Freiburg, Germany in 1974. That same year on May 19 he was ordained a priest. Fr. Jozo arrived in the USA on Sept. 19, 1975 and immediately pursued his study of the English language in Chicago and Washington. He became assistant pastor at St. Mary’s in Steelton (1976-1980). At that time he was transferred to St. Jerome Parish, Chicago as associate pastor. He became pastor of St. Jerome’s in Detroit where he stayed until 1989. He was then named pastor of St. Mary’s in Steelton until 1995. In 1995, Fr. Jozo then was named pastor at St. Francis in Windsor, and in 2006 he became pastor in Troy, Michigan where he served until 2010, when he became pastor of St. Leopold Mandic in London, Ontario, till his death on June 17th, 2014. Fr. Jozo served on the Custodial Board twice (1979-1982 and 1993-1997). Fr. Jozo will be lying in state at St. Leopold Mandic Croatian Catholic Church, 2889 Westminster Avenue, on Saturday, June 21st from 10 am until the time of the Funeral Mass at 12 noon. Interment in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Alsip, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Leopold Mandic Croatian Catholic Church would be appreciated

  ZARKOVIC, Nikola Born in Gospic Lika, Croatia on November 23, 1929. Passed away on May 10, 2014 at the age of 84. Predeceased by his dear parents Manda and Marko Zarkovic. Dear brother to Jurica Zarkovic, sister-in-law Manda of Croatia. Brother Josip (Joe) Zarkovich, late sister-in-law Ivanka. Dear uncle to Madeline Ann (Mandy) of Windsor. Sister Marija Brkljacic (late Ivica) of Croatia. Dear uncle to Marija, Milka and family, Marko and Family, Ika, Blazenka and family all of Croatia. Nikola was retired from Windsor Bumper and was a faithful member of St. Francis of Assisi Croatian Catholic Church.

PERETIN, Stjepan “Steve Passed away peacefully on April 2, 2014 at Windsor Regional Hospital, Met. Campus, surrounded by his loving family, at the age of 73 years. Beloved husband to Marica (nee Zvonaric), with whom he celebrated 49 years of marriage. Loving and devoted father to Zelko and wife Julie Peretin; and Jasna Peretin. Cherished “Deda” to his adored grandchildren: Brittany, Stephanie, and Justin Peretin. Dear brother to Katica and husband Tony Zvonaric; and predeceased by brother Drago Peretin (2008). Also survived by niece Maryann Romano (Louie) and their children Nicholas, Michael and Daniel, and family in Croatia and Canada. Steve was a retired and dedicated employee with 25 years of service at General Motors of Canada. He was also a faithful and devoted member of St. Francis of Assisi Croatian Church.

SLADIC, Petar “Peter” Born October 7, 1944 in Mracin, Croatia. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Petar on February 25, 2014 at the age of 69 years. Petar was a man of great courage who most recently fought a valiant battle with leukemia in which he overcame and succeeded. Beloved husband and best friend to Maca “Mary” (nee Sekula) with whom he celebrated their 48th Wedding Anniversary on February 19, 2014. Loving and most devoted “Dadio” to Jure and wife Katie Sladic, Peter and Chantal Sladic, and Suzee Sladic. Predeceased by parents Petar and Mara Sladic. Dear brother to Branko and wife Maca Sladic. Adored uncle to Danny and wife Melissa Sladic, and Vesna and Roy Rosa, and their families. Petar was a faithful and devoted parishoner at St. Francis of Assisi Croatian Catholic Church. He also was a retired employee of Chrysler Canada with over 34 years of dedicated service, and a member of Unifor, Local 444. Petar was a true inspiration to his family and friends. His unconditional love was the greatest gift any husband or father could give to his family. His pride and joy was being with his family and making sure that they were all looked after. A man with a a great sense of humour and determination, Petar knew all the right words to say to make sure that everyone would be left smiling. He will be sadly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Predeceased and reunited with his beloved wife Kate (2000) and son Robert (2000). Beloved father of John Stimac (Maria De Luca), Vesna Sim (Todd) and Linda Flay (Robert Zolotcov). Very cherished and precious “Dida” to his grandchildren Katelin and Michael Flay and Robby and Ryan Sim. Dad was born in Perusic, Croatia and immigrated to Canada in 1956. He is predeceased by his parents Lucija (Uremovic) and Josip Stimac. Dear brother to Josip Stimac (Zora), Windsor, Ivica Stimac (Mara), Vancouver, Mandica Valincic and late husband Zvonko, Croatia, Marija Njegovan and late husband Milan, Kaja Njegovan (Milorad), and predeceased by sister Anna Stimac and late husband Dane, and brother Stipe Stimac and late wife Anna. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Our father retired from Chrysler’s in 2000 after 36 years of service and was a member of CAW Local 444.

Cherished father to Maria and Brad Janisse, Julie Spooner (1996), and Petar and Bozica (nee Rezler). Precious Dida to Steven, Luke, Julia, MaryRose, Clare, Martin, Monika, Joanna, Amalia, Stephen and Vanessa. Steve immigrated to Canada in 1958 to Thompson, Manitoba. Steve moved to Winnipeg where he met the love of his life, his wife Zorka whom he married in 1961. Proudly together they raised three children in Winnipeg and Windsor which later became their home. Steve retired from Chryslers after 28 years of dedicated service. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Croatian Catholic Church and a past member of the Parish Council, a member of U.K.H. of Canada and of Deseti Travanj, Winnipeg Branch.

Ana Grubesic  February 17, 1915 – April 23, 2013  GRUBESIC, Ana (nee Spudic) Born February 17, 1915 in Vinski Vrh Croatia. Passed away peacefully on April 23, 2013 at Windsor Regional Hospital, Met Campus at 98 years of age. Beloved wife of the late Stjepan Grubesic (1989). Cherished mother of Josip Grubesic and wife Marica, and Marica Maletic and husband Stevo. Loving Grandmother of the late Darko, Joe (Edna), John (Suzana), Anne Marie (Slavko), Steven (Oricia), and Miro Vranic (relative). Great-grandmother of Gabriella, Natalie, Kristijan, Sofia, Ethan, and Klara. Daughter of the late Ivan and Mara Spudic. Predeceased by siblings Katica, Mijo, Josip, and Ivan. Ana started working in a textile factory for 10 years starting at the young age of 16. She devoted her time to raising her children and her passion for gardening. She arrived in Canada in 1976 with her loving husband. She continued to nurture her family including her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We have been blessed to have enjoyed her for so many years.

Beloved husband of the late Ivanka “Yvonne” (nee Puconja). Loving father to John (Janice), Tom (Chantal), Vicky (Dennis Mifsud), Mary-Anne (Colin McLellan). Cherished Grandpa of Shawna (Roger Rai), Natalie, Lindsay, Stephanie, Matthew, Stewart, and Alea. Great-Grandpa to Madison. Last surviving sibling of ten. Frank was very proud of his Slovenian heritage, as evident through his active lifetime membership with the Slovenski Dom. A true hero, Frank fought a very long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s for 17 years. After WWII he immigrated to Canada from Slovenia with nothing but a dream for a better life. He endured many hardships but his hard work and faith prevailed. He pursued his dreams and his love of horses led him to become a successful harness racer and breeder. He was a member of the OHHA. A true champion, his love of life and positive attitude were inspiring. His heartwarming smile was endearing and all who knew him loved him.

Loving father to Willie Kokotec and wife Vikki; the late Steven Kokotec (January 9, 2011); and Barbara Kokotec. Cherished grandfather (Dida) to Emmy. Dear son in-law to the late Ana and Ivan Pavlakovic. Also predeceased by 3 sisters and 2 brothers in Croatia. He leaves to mourn many nieces and nephews in Canada, Croatia and U.S.A. Local 444. Steve emigrated from Croatia and was very proud of his Croatian heritage. On August 20th, 1950, St. Francis of Assisi Croatian Church, with its founding father, Fr. Lujo Ivandic was opened to the Croatian community at the corner of Seminole St. and Albert Rd.

Mary was the beloved wife of the late Joseph (1992) and is predeceased by her dear brothers John “Zdune”, Milan, Ante, Marko and surviving wife Ika, and sisters Roza Asic and Josipa Rukavina. Dear Teta to her nieces and nephews, Rose Mary, Johnny, Milan, Dolly, Chichy; Debra, Michael, Ann Marie; Ivica, Misko, Ivanka; (Ljubica, Marian, Joso and Marijana of Croatia) and the late Mitza and Sophia of Argentina. Although Alzheimer’s affected his late years, Frank will be remembered for his love of singing and oil painting, strong religious faith, physical strength and willingness to help a friend or neighbour.
